The entry point for noise-cancelling AirPods is now $129 in the US. Apple’s AirPods 5 put active noise cancellation in both versions of its open-ear earbuds.
The two models keep a familiar shape, but the more expensive version adds several everyday conveniences. For $149, it includes a wireless charging case, volume control by swiping the stem, and longer battery life.
What the extra $20 gets you
On the Wireless Charging Case model, Apple quotes up to five hours of listening with noise cancellation on, or up to 22 hours when using the case. That case works with Qi-compatible chargers, Apple Watch chargers and USB-C.
Volume swipes may be the more immediately useful difference: they let you adjust listening volume without reaching for your phone.
When they arrive
Apple announced the lineup on September 9, with preorders opening that day and retail availability beginning September 18. Prices here are US list prices.
