Check the existing appliance first

Some of Samsung’s newest appliance software is reaching products people already own. The company’s September 7 announcement describes phased Tizen 10 updates for selected refrigerators and laundry appliances, beginning during September.

For eligible camera-equipped Family Hub refrigerators, the update expands food recognition using AI Vision built with Google Gemini. Samsung lists selected models from earlier years, including some refrigerators released between 2021 and 2025.

A different kind of upgrade

Selected 2024 and 2025 laundry models also gain software changes. Samsung describes more natural Bixby interactions and a simplified Easy Mode interface on applicable seven-inch screens. The everyday benefit is easier access to information, such as how long a cycle has left.

For an owner, the practical first step is identifying the exact model and checking the appliance’s update notice. Do not assume a feature on a current showroom model applies to every older device with a similar name or screen.

What to compare after updating

Look for one concrete improvement in your normal routine. Can you find the remaining cycle time more easily? Does food recognition correctly identify the items you usually store? If a feature needs repeated correction, that matters more than the size of the announcement.

Samsung says timing and supported functions vary by model and market. The accompanying image is its official refrigerator product scene, not proof that the pictured unit or every similar appliance has received the update. We have not independently tested these appliance features.
