What changed

OpenAI’s October 14 report describes rapid growth in agentic use among its European business customers. It says weekly active users of Codex and ChatGPT Work increased 8.1 times between May and September. At sampled enterprise accounts, more than half of output tokens were generated in agentic workflows. That suggests a change in how some business customers use AI: less one-off drafting, more work delegated across multiple steps.

The report also shows uneven adoption across countries. OpenAI reports that agentic use ranges from 22% of enterprise output tokens in Slovenia to 85% in Lithuania. These are shares within OpenAI’s own business-account sample, not a census of European workplaces or a neutral measure across competing tools.

What the result means

The useful takeaway is the shape of the adoption curve, not a universal productivity promise. A weekly-active-user increase shows demand for the company’s products; it does not by itself show hours saved or quality improved. For teams evaluating agents, the next question is which workflows can be completed with fewer handoffs while keeping review and accountability clear.
