A single Swift API
Hugging Face’s AnyLanguageModel 1.0 is a drop-in Swift interface for several language-model backends. The announcement lists Apple Foundation Models, open-weight models through llama.cpp, MLX and Core ML, plus hosted providers. The same library also supports tool calling, guided generation and image input.
Why this is useful
An app team can avoid baking one provider’s request and response format throughout its code. A shared interface makes it easier to change the backend or offer different choices for local and hosted use. For Apple developers, the local option can support on-device use cases; hosted models may offer a different capability or deployment tradeoff.
It is an adapter, not model parity
A common API does not make the underlying models equivalent. Context size, speed, tool behavior, image support, privacy characteristics and hardware requirements vary by backend. Teams still need to test the exact model and device combination they plan to ship. The library reduces integration friction; it does not erase those product differences.
