What changed

Google Cloud’s Gemini at Work announcement introduces a single agent for enterprise knowledge work, media creation and coding. Instead of being limited to a chat response, the agent is designed to plan a task, use skills and tools, connect to company systems and return finished work in documents, inboxes or developer environments.

The launch also brings Gemini into Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar with shared memory, skills and controls. Google describes a unified agent that can be assigned work, scheduled for later or triggered by events, with model choice and cost controls built into the experience.

What the result actually shows

Google included customer examples: Bunnings says an internal agent saved staff half a million administrative hours; Kmart and Officeworks reported shopping agents increased conversion rates by as much as three times. These are company-reported outcomes, not independently audited guarantees or expected results for every organization.

The product question is whether a single interface can safely span all these systems. Google emphasizes identity, policy management, authorization, sandboxing and spend caps. That governance layer is not decorative: once an agent can write to business systems, its permissions and pause conditions become part of the core feature.
