An application timeline inside ChatGPT

OpenAI says College Planner is coming to ChatGPT for teens. It is designed to collect requirements, deadlines, application tasks and financial-aid steps for the schools on a student’s list. Students can update progress and ask what a requirement means or how to begin.

The company frames the tool as organizational help rather than a substitute for the student’s own decisions. Counselors, advisers and families remain part of the process. The feature is planned, so the announcement describes intended functionality rather than a broadly available product.

Learning features already in use

OpenAI reports that nearly 1.2 million teens used Learning Visualizations in one week and more than 180,000 used Study Mode. It says teens with access to ChatGPT for Teens sent more learning-related messages on average than teens who did not yet have access. These are company-reported usage figures, not evidence that AI use alone caused better educational outcomes.

The product direction is an assistant that helps students break a complicated process into steps. Its value will depend on how clearly it explains requirements, protects privacy and points students toward trusted human guidance when decisions carry real consequences.
