A model navigates a game world for 40 minutes

The Agent-WoW creator reports that GPT-6 Astra completed an Orc starting zone in World of Warcraft during a 40-minute run with no deaths. The video shows the character moving through the game and completing the early progression sequence. It is a creator-reported demonstration, not a Blizzard release or a public mod.

The setup changes what “playing” means. Agent-WoW connects to a private AzerothCore server and uses the game’s network protocol and structured world data, including quest information. It is not relying only on pixels and keyboard inputs as a person would.

Why the interface matters

Most public computer-use agents look at a screen, infer what is happening and send clicks or keystrokes. Agent-WoW can query structured state through the server interface, giving it a more direct representation of quests, nearby entities and actions. That can make a game task easier for an agent, but it is also a different and more privileged test than playing on a live public server.

The striking part is the length of the run: the agent has to maintain a goal through movement, combat and quest steps rather than produce a single correct answer. The useful question for builders is how much of that persistence comes from the model and how much comes from the custom game interface and helper code.

A playable experiment, not a live-service bot

The creator’s write-up says the work was carried out on a private server and explains the protocol-based design. That matters for interpreting the footage: this shows what an agent can do when it has access to a tailored game-state interface, not an autonomous player logging into Blizzard’s live service.

Even with that boundary, it is a memorable example of an agent operating inside a simulated world for an extended task. The project’s source and video make the mechanics inspectable instead of hiding the run behind a short highlight reel.
